benefits of Sauna
& cold exposure

The heat of sauna causes blood vessels to dilate, improving blood flow throughout the body, and supporting healthy blood pressure. It can also elevate heart rate, leading to similar benefits to cardiovascular exercise, promoting cardiovascular health.

Sauna and cold exposure can greatly benefit recovery. Increased blood flow to the muscles helps to promote recovery by increasing oxygen transport, reducing inflammation and relaxing tired and overworked muscles. Stiff, sore joints also benefit from the heat!

Multiple long-term studies have shown strong links between regular sauna use and longevity, likely due to the impacts on cardiovascular health. Frequent sauna use was linked to lesser likelihood of cardiovascular disease and stroke in Finnish men.

Sauna heat and cold exposure release endorphins and other hormones that promote stress relief, relaxation, and happiness. The reduction in pain, benefits to sleep, and calm, low-stimulation environment all promote healthy stress levels.

Many studies show connections between sauna use and improved sleep. Endorphins, reduced stress, and increased body temperature can promote better sleep after sauna use. The low-stimulation environment & sociality also support relaxation.

In Scandinavian countries, saunas are a major social hub for adults, promoting healthy social lives and a sense of community. Sauna use has also been linked to improved cognition, and some studies indicate significant mental health benefits.

health risks

As with all health and wellness modalities, there are risks associated with sauna and cold exposure for those with certain health conditions. Please review our list of contraindications and consult your physician if you have any of these conditions or are concerned about your safety while using a sauna or being exposed to cold temperatures.

heart conditions

Certain heart and blood pressure conditions can make the use of sauna very dangerous. Extreme heat increases cardiac output and BPM. Please consult your physician before using a sauna.

pregnancy

Pregnant women should not use sauna or other extreme heat modalities, as they can dangerously increase core body temperature, which can increase the risk of birth defects and complications. Please do not use our sauna if you are or may be pregnant.

Disordered Sweating

Disorders that impact sweating, such as Multiple Sclerosis, are at risk of overheating. Consult your physician before using our sauna if you have a disorder that impacts your ability to sweat.

drug & alcohol use

Alcohol and drug use can impair judgment, speed up dehydration, increase heart rate, and lower blood pressure. This can cause fainting, illness, or injury in extreme heat of a sauna. We strictly prohibit the use of alcohol and drugs while using our sauna.

diabetes

Extreme heat can increase blood sugar levels and speed up dehydration, which is dangerous from those with diabetes. If you have diabetes, consult with your physician before using a sauna.

Raynaud's disease

Those with Raynaud's Disease or other disorders causing sensitivity to cold should not deliberately expose themselves to cold temperatures, such as with a cold plunge, as it can lead to hyperthermia or other serious conditions.
